Dr. Nielsen serves as Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) for all of Baptist Health Care. He serves four major capacities regarding health information technology (HIT) 1) physician training and EHR adoption, 2) registry and data analytics support, 3) governance and leadership, 4) planning and system design. He serves as the key contact for employed and affiliated practice providers associated with BHC in hospital, ambulatory and physician practice settings of care. He also coordinates and collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer and the Associate Chief Nursing Officers, and works with the Vice President and Chief Information Officer with support from the SVP Chief Transformation Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs.
Dr. Nielsen obtained his medical degree at the University of Iowa and completed his General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery and General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He holds licenses in Florida, Alabama and Texas.
