TECH-BASED ECONOMY

The iTen Wired initiative represents a geographically and culturally diverse area along the Gulf of Mexico with a history dating back to the 16th Century. The area has one of the oldest continually operating symphonies in the United States, theaters, national parks, museums, and beaches. The region covers a 5 county area of Mobile and Baldwin Counties in Alabama and Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties in Florida. The area encompasses the Mobile and Pensacola MSAs which have a combined population of approximately one million residents and has more than a half dozen universities and colleges.

High-tech meets southern hospitality. The Gulf Coast region is a place where you can set your own pace, fast or slow. Whether you’re making a difference in our community, starting a business, kayaking in Mobile Bay or mountain biking on miles of trails on the University of West Florida campus, this is a place with a sense of place. With over 100+ deep sea fishing charters, historic Fort Morgan and Fort Barrancas, or the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angel air shows, there are plenty of recreational activities.

The region is rich in military history, creating opportunities for new residents to become involved and connect with the community. This transcends into multiple organizations which add to that effort including young professional organizations, entrepreneurial networks, volunteer programs and various other groups that make it easy to feel at home.

Hang your hat right here in the Gulf Coast region. Urban lofts, waterfront condos, Victorians and craftsman cottages – it’s your choice based on your lifestyle. With median housing prices significantly below those on the East and West coast, this is a place where you can still have a place.

The numbers. With more than 50 miles of beaches, 340 days of sunshine a year, an average temperature of 77 degrees, the opportunities for outdoor recreation abound. A few things that you might enjoy include:
