Like many other companies, the idea for TeleVox Software was born from a need. In 1992, Neil Armentrout and Fran Smith Armentrout noticed a need in the healthcare industry for practices to easily communicate with large numbers of patients. It was then that TeleVox and its flagship messaging system, HouseCalls™, were created. Starting with just 5 employees, the Armentrouts set up shop in Mobile and began the arduous task of trying to break into an industry with a product idea that no one had ever heard of.
After a few years, the idea of HouseCalls took off in the healthcare industry and prompted TeleVox to develop other messaging technologies, among them an inbound lab results inquiry interface called LabCalls®, and an online doctor-patient communication portal, T.LINK®. The company also provides an on-hold messaging system, Vox On-Hold™, and designs custom interactive websites. TeleVox has seen expansion of its products into all areas and specialties of healthcare, managed care, the utility industry, the blood donation arena, and various other commercial markets.
Today, TeleVox employs 250 professionals, most of which are located at the company’s Montlimar Tower headquarters in Mobile. This also includes 30 sales executives located across the country who are responsible for introducing TeleVox to new clients in various markets. In recent years, TeleVox has been regularly listed among the Healthcare Informatics Top 100 Healthcare IT Companies by Revenue, and has also been named the Large Technology Company of the Year by the Alabama Information Technology Association.
When asked about the reasons for their company’s success, the Armentrouts agree. TeleVox was founded on two basic principles: provide superior technology products and do whatever is necessary to take excellent care of our customers. “When you focus on the quality of your product and support that with unwavering dedication to your customers, you can’t lose,” says Neil Armentrout. “And we have 250 people who are just as focused on making that happen as we are. It’s a great place to be,” adds Fran Smith.
